INMEMORIAM.
Larry Bruce Klaasen
September 3, 1944 - January 8, 2026
Larry Klaasen, many of you know him from past Ski trips and events with his wife Pat at North Island Snowdrifters and Action Ski Clubs, passed away suddenly in early January from pancreatic cancer. Larry was actively involved in many volunteer and hobby activities leveraging his Chemical Engineering background. For many years, Larry was active in the Local Sierra Club Chapter achieving a Silver Cup award in 1998. Since 1979, he was a member of North Island Ski Club. During his tenure, he was Club President and ski-trip leader.
Larry was a dedicated outdoorsman, naturalist, hiker and skier who loved the mountains. For 21 years, Larry took Geo Caching to a new level incorporating Geo Caches searches into his and Pat's worldwide travel trips. Larry was on many Sierra Club backpacking trips. He was always optimistic, never lost, often set the group pace and excited to soon find his next Cache near the trail.
Larry was an excellent skier always willing to go off-piste or find a hidden trail thru the trees. He will be long-remembered for his positive attitude and humorous wit, sharing his knowledge and ideas with others. Larry will be sorely missed by the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for May. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Lakeside River Park Conservancy where Larry was a long time volunteer making significant valuable contributions to the River Park over many years.
